Ch. 6: The Rite of The Audee Shone
I cautiously entered the cave of the Golden Lion, not knowing what might lurk around the next corner. Creeping along the wall I felt for clues, signs of where I might be headed. The high priests had instructed me to go to the Temple of the 54th god, Studio. The followers of Studio are known for their nightly rituals of dance and alcohol.
I turned a corner, and there, hidden in the wall of the cave was a large, ancient numeric symbol:
This was the place. Outside the entrance to the temple stood an older gentleman. I approached him.
"Hello, young man. Are you here for the sacred ritual?" asked the man, in a voice filled with paternal kindness.
"Yes. I am," replied I. "My name is Jarrod."
"A pleasure meeting you, Jarrod. My name is Gary. Gary the Mime." He extended his hand and we shook.
Odd, a talking mime. Will wonders never cease?
After a while more people started to arrive. And then a young man came from the entrance. The Taker of Names. We wrote our names on the Parchment of Names and were split into groups of four people.
I looked around at those in my group. Two women, Sylvia the Expert and Hope the Hopeful, and one other man, Terrence the Tall One. Sylvia had performed the rites on the last Day of Audee Shones, many moons ago. She explained the process to us. We all listened, hanging on every word, hoping for hints as to what we needed to do to please the gods.
At this point another man came out of the temple. The Usher of prospectives. He called forth the first group. This was my group. We entered the temple. Inside was a raised platform, commonly used for Studians to dance. There was also a small raised "stage" with steps leading up on either side. In front of the "stage" sat six priests known only as Audee Shoneers. They instructed us in the way of the Audee Shone.
First we paired off. One of the pair assumed the role of Gatekeeper. ( The Gatekeeper is the usher into the world of KA, providing great guest service while maintaining a distinct character from the world of the show.) The other partner portrayed an audience member. The Gatekeepr guided the audience member up the stairs, across the stage, and back down the stairs. Then the next pair went. Then the first pair went again, switching roles. Each person was Gatekeeper twice.
After performing the Dance of Improv, we were sent to the side while the Audee Shoneers conversed. After a moment we were instructed to sit before the Audee Shoneers. They then commenced in the ritual Questioning of The Prospectives. After answering the Questions of the Gods we were led back out to the cave, where we waited to be called forth once again.
Once we returned to the Floor of Dance an Audee Shoneer stood and taught us the ritual Dance of Eight Counts. The other Audee Shoneers watched us learn. Would they want us to perform this complicated thigh-slapping-pivot dance? No, they had seen enough. It was time to head back to the Temple Center of Employment. There we were given instructions to have a drug test and we would be called soon for the second interview.
